The spice and spirit of Asia was injected into the heart of East Fremantle when Sweetwater Rooftop Bar opened its doors in June 2016.
Adding to Fremantle’s vibrant hospitality community, and the burgeoning East Fremantle food scene, Sweetwater restaurant serves up thirst quenching cocktails and punchy dishes in a casual, welcoming environment.
Nestled atop the ground breaking 87 million dollar Richmond Quarter development in East Fremantle, the Sweetwater restaurant boasts sweeping views across the suburb out to the winding Swan River, Freo Port and Indian Ocean.
Holding many ties to the community history of East Fremantle, Sweetwater’s license dates back to the early 1900s, where it was the original license from the old Royal George Hotel on neighbouring George Street. The venue’s name comes from the prohibition period when the term ‘sweetwater’ was used as a code word for alcohol.
Building on his passion for hawker-style street market food that saw him head up the kitchen at Melbourne’s acclaimed Gingerboy restaurant for seven years, Sweetwater head chef Leigh Power has devised a mouth-watering menu focused on substance over style.
True to his name, Power’s share plates pack a punch with a diversity of flavours influenced by seasonal produce. With small dishes, including tempura cuttlefish with prickly ash, chilli, coriander and spring onion, to more substantial offerings, including roast duck with eggplant, shanghai noodle and aromatic Chinese wine, every palate will be delighted by his menu offerings.
Situated directly under the venue is a 24 key boutique apartment hotel, managed by Seashells Hospitality Group, with interiors by renowned stylist Renee Coleman. Sweetwater is a destination venue where you can eat, drink and stay.
